Fred's Devo # 49: Wake Up! It's Later Than You Think!

"This is all the more urgent, for you know how late it is; time is running out. Wake up, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. 12 The night is almost gone; the day of salvation will soon be here. So remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes, and put on the shining armor of right living. 13 Because we belong to the day, we must live decent lives for all to see. Don’t participate in the darkness of wild parties and drunkenness, or in sexual promiscuity and immoral living, or in quarreling and jealousy. 14 Instead, clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. And don’t let yourself think about ways to indulge your evil desires."
Romans 13:11-14, NLT

Jesus will be returning sooner than we think! As Christians we need to wake up from our slumber and slackness and realize how late it is! We need to put off sin and unrighteous living and live as children of the Lord! We only have a limited amount of time to share the gospel with others! We cannot think and live like people in the world if we want to reach them. We have to think, act and live righteously if we are going to have an impact.

Prayer: Lord, where am I asleep? Where have I conformed to this world? Speak to your servant Lord!... Lord , I confess to you that I have been self absorbed and have not thought much about my unsaved neighbor. Help me to be transformed by the renewing of my mind. Help me to wake up, be alert and get busy with your priorities and purposes for me.

In Jesus Name! Amen

Fred's Daily Devo # 48 " You Can Do No Wrong When You Walk in Love"

-10"Don't run up debts, except for the huge debt of love you owe each other.

When you love others, you complete what the law has been after all along.

The law code—don't sleep with another person's spouse, don't take someone's life, don't take what isn't yours, don't always be wanting what you don't have, and any other "don't" you can think of—finally adds up to this:

Love other people as well as you do yourself.

You can't go wrong when you love others. When you add up everything in the law code, the sum total is love." Romans 13:8-10

Lord, where am I in relationship to this word today? Am I walking in your love? Where am I failing to walk in love? Help me to grow in your love, for the more I grow in your kind of love, the less I will walk in sin and disobedience.
In Jesus Name! Amen

Fred's Devo # 48 "Respect Those in Authority"

1"Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. 3For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. 4For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. 5Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience. 6This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants, who give their full time to governing. 7Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor." Romans 13:1-7

Many people hate the idea of submitting to any authority, man's authority or God's authority, the authority of bosses or teachers. There is something in our flesh which rises up and says: You can't tell me what to do! Yet as Christians, we are called to submit to both God's authorities as well as those who rule in the earth. We are to obey traffic laws, pay our taxes and follow rules and regulations set up by our local and national governments. and obey school and work rules. Many of these laws are designed to keep order and allow us to live a quiet and peaceable life. Others seem arbitrary, but yet we are called to obey, even when we don't like them.

Let's pray: Lord I confess to you my natural tendency to rebel and do what I want to do. Help me to honor and respect the authorities that you have placed over me. Help me to understand that they have no power except what you allow them to have. Help me to pray for my leaders and honor them where honor is due. Help me to bring glory to your name by right and honorable living in my community.

In Jesus Name! Amen.

Fred's Devo #47 "Turn From Your Wicked Ways"

If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 NKJV

Yesterday we dealt with "If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves"
Today, we deal with "and pray and turn from their wicked ways."

Sin is a hinderance to answered prayer. The scriptures says, "If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened" (or answered prayer) Sin can be wilful disobedience to God or things we failed to do. Sometimes it is obvious and apparent at other times it has to be pointed out to us by God or others. That's why it is important for us to daily come before God in prayer, asking him to show you if there is "any way in you"

Prayer of Self Examination: Lord search my heart and see if there be any wicked way in me. Lord help me to have an attitude humility, even as I wait for your answer. ...Yes Lord...Now as I confess my sin, forgive me of my sin and cleanse me of all unrighteousness in Jesus Name I pray, Amen!

Now order my footsteps and direct my paths today. Equip me today as I share the word with your people at Church on tonight. In Jesus Name, Amen!

Fred's Devotional 46 :Humble yourself Before God

“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 NKJV

One of the conditions of answered prayer is for us to be humble and submitted to our awesome God! This scripture talks about three things.

First,we are God's People-Called by His Name. If you have given your life to Jesus, you are one of God's people. As such your allegiance is to him first. That means, we are willing to bring our entire lives into subjection to Jesus.
Second, we are called to humble ourselves before God. Pride comes before a fall. Humility says, I don't know it all, I am not self sufficient,I need your help Lord!

Prayer of Reflection: Lord, where am I walking in pride or self righteousness. Where have I refused to ask for your help?

Prayer of Repentance: Lord forgive me for the times when I have gone about my work day without falling on my knees in prayer to ask for your guidance and direction. Thank you for forgiveness and cleansing according to I John 1:9.

Now help me today, to remember who I belong to and to walk in dependence on you.
In Jesus Mighty Name! Amen.

Tommorrow we will discuss the rest of this verses.

Devo # 45 "When Someone has Done you Dirty"

Someone has clearly done you wrong. They did it deliberately, and they knew what they were doing. You are offended, mad and you feel like getting them straight! In fact, you want revenge! You are so mad, or hurt that you can't think straight or pray right! In fact when you do pray, the only thing that comes out of your mouth is "Lord get'em!" As a Christian, how do you handle a situation like this. The scripture is clear:

7"Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. 18If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord. 20 On the contrary:
"If your enemy is hungry, feed him;if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head."[e] 21Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."

Wow! This teaching goes totally against human nature, yet this is exactly what God has called us to do! God sees the wrong that has been done to us. He is neither blind not deaf. He sees it and he says, let me deal with it. When we begin to take revenge and get even, something dark and ugly begins to happen to our hearts. Bitterness, anger and hurt festers in us like an infected wound and poisons our spiritual bodies.

When we let it go, do what is right and forgive, the anger and poison leaves our soul and we are free to pray for that person and commend him or her to God's hands.

Let's Pray: Lord as difficult as it is sometimes, help me to never hold on to anger and bitterness when I am wronged. Help me to remember to do what is right and leave vengeance to you. In fact Lord, help me to bless those who persecute me and to pray for your mercy upon them. In Jesus Name Amen!

Fred's Devo # 44 " When Challenges Come"

Yesterday, we discussed the attitude of the believer. Today's devotional topic is:
"When Challenges Come"

"14Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. 16Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited." (Romans 12:14-16)

Every day in the life of a believer will not be peaches and ice cream. Because we call on the name of Jesus, we will sonetimes suffer persecution from those who do not follow Jesus. Do we fight back or retaliate? No! Surprisngly, the passage tells us to bless those who persecute us and not to curse them. What! This is counter cultural and counter intuitive, yet this is what the Lord would have us to do. When our brothers and sisters are hurting, instead of going on with our lives, we are to sit and mourn with them and show compassion for them. Do not too quickly try to move them past their grief but sit with them in their grief. Then we are told to live in harmony with others-be a peace maker, not a trouble maker. This is really helped by an attitude of humlility rather than pride. Humilility also helps us to reach out to people who are left out, margninalized or poor.

Let's Pray: Lord, when challenges come my way, help me to respond the way you want to respond rather than in my flesh or in selfisnness.
In Jesus Name Amen!

Fred's Devo # 43 " The Attitude of the Believer"

Yesterday we discussed What Love looks like. Today, we look at the "Attitude and demeanor of the believer. Our scripture passage reads:
"11Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13Share with God's people who are in need. Practice hospitality." Romans 12:11-13

According to Paul in this passage, the primary attitude of the Christian should be one of zeal and fervor as we serve the Lord. Why? Because we are serving the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. Suppose you finished college and got a job working for President Obama! When you shared with your friends you would share it with excitement and enthusiasm because of the rare privilege of serving such a great man. Even more so, the Lord Jesus Christ is worthy of our zeal and excitement as we talk about his goodness!
The scripture also tells us to be joyful in hope but also patient in tribulation. It's easy to be joyful when things are hopeful but when affliction or trouble hit-we don't get a pass. He says be patient anyway! We can do as we grow in the fruits of the Spirit as found in Galations 5; patience is one of them" Check this out: "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires.

Prayer: Lord help me to grow in my zeal and joy for you! Help me, even when I am having a hard day, not to cuss and fuss but instead to be patient in trouble, trusting you and remaining faithful in prayer and service to others.
In Jesus Name Amen!

Fred's Devo #42 What Does Love Look Like

9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Romans 12:9-10

What does love look like when it moves from nice sentimental words to action. It is first sincere, it does not come from surface flattery but from authentic sincerity. Love shows up at the bedside of a friend when they are sick. Love stops by to take a brother to work when his car breaks down. Love is willing to sit and listen as I pour out my pain over a recent loss. Love shows up and loyalty and commitment when everyone else has abandoned me. Love shows up best when it can't be repaid. What does love look like? I Corinthians 13: gives a clue: "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres"

Let's pray: Lord, I know that this kind of love is the God kind of love that only comes from you. It does not run out like human love. Lord, help me to grow in this kind of sacrificial, selfless love that is possible only through the power of Jesus Christ. Help me to die to self so that you will be exalted, even as I express your love to others!
In Jesus Name! Amen

Fred's Devo # 41 "Love Must Be Sincere"

Today we continue with how members of the body of Christ are to live and work together. Here's the passage:
9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. 11Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13Share with God's people who are in need. Practice hospitality. 14Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. 16Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position.[c] Do not be conceited. 17Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. 18If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay,"[d]says the Lord. 20On the contrary: "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head." 21Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. (Romans 12:9-21)

Love must be sincere is how Paul opens this passage. Love is the hallmark of realtionships within the body of Christ. It is the one outward sign that the world looks for to determine if we are followers of Christ! Jesus said in
John 13:34 says: "34 So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. 35 Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”

Prayer: Lord, since Love within the body of Christ is so important help me to walk in your love as I go throughout my day.
In Jesus Name. Amen!

Devotional # 40 Life Together in the Body of Christ

In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head."[e] 21Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:9-21

This passage is a picture of what living life together in the body of Christ should look like. When others see Christians in community, they will not see perfect people, but they should see relationships motivated by love.

Prayer: Lord as a member of your body, help me to be motivated by love-not selfishness as I relate to my brothers and sisters in Christ.

In Jesus Name! Amen!

Fred's Devotional # 39 Scriptures on Salvation

Today instead of the regular devotional, I wanted to share some basic scriptures found in the bible on the subject of salvation. Read them, meditate on them and be reminded of what a great gift of salvation we have been given by God through our Savior, Jesus Christ!

Scriptures on Salvation*
Become a Christian
Many people are looking for God. If you're one of those people, we'd like to share with you that the Bible has what you are seeking. It contains answers to life's vital questions, and—most important—can help you understand how to have a right relationship with God. Here are some selected verses:

God Loves You
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. —John 3:16
But God commendeth his love towards us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. —Romans 5:8

All Are Sinners
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. —Romans 3:23
As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one. —Romans 3:10

God's Remedy for Sin
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. —Romans 6:23
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. —John 1:12

All May Be Saved Now
Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him. —Revelation 3:20(a)
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. —Romans 10:13
But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. —John 20:31

Receive Christ as Your Saviour Now
Confessing to God that I am a sinner, and believing that the Lord Jesus Christ died for my sins on the cross and was raised for my justification, I now receive and confess Him as my personal Saviour.

Seeking a Church
After making your decision to receive Christ, we encourage you to prayerfully seek a local Bible-believing church that will assist you in growing as a new Christian. "But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever." Amen. —II Peter 3:18

Assurance as a Believer
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.—Romans 10:9 Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. —John 5:24

Fred's Devotional # 38 "The Motivational Gift of Mercy"

"So in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. 6We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. 7If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; 8if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully." Romans 12:5-7.

The Motivational Gift of Mercy, provides a very important balance within the body of Christ. Christians are called to speak the truth of God's word, which can be challenging to us. We are are called to correct, exhort and rebuke. At the same time, we are also called to show mercy and to help those in need. This is called the gift of mercy. Colossians 3:12-13 says:

2Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; 13Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. (King James version)

The person with the gift of mercy has the "God given ability to show genuine empathy and compassion for individuals, both Christian and non Christian who suffer distressing physical, mental or emotional problems and the ability to translate that compassion into cheerfully done deeds which reflects Christ's love and alleviate the suffering" *

This gift allows the body of Christ to take it's focus off the business at hand and care for the hurting among us. Although this is not everyone's primary gift, Christ would have all of us to be sensitive to the needs of those around us and be willing to help when we can.

Prayer: Lord, help me to show your love by being sensitive to the needs and hurts of others as I go about my day. In Jesus Name! Amen!

Fred's Devo #37 Jesus Suffering Saves Us

Today's devotional comes from a guest "devotionalist" , Rev. Bill Bauerle.

He talks about the fact that even though Jesus was fully God, he also became a man so that he could identify with our suffering: I especially appreciate this quote. "Christ's suffering is able to save all who obey him."
Read and be blessed!
Fred Williams

---------------------
Good morning friends,

Hebrews 5:7-9
"In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence. Although he was a son, he learned obedience through what he suffered. And being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him.'

There are times the question of whether Jesus could disobey God is posed. The writer here seems to anticipate that question himself and points out the reality of Christ being in the flesh. While Christ was not born with a sin nature, he was true humanity none the less. Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, not with some kind of show, but with real anguish. This most likely is a direct reference to the garden, but I don’t think we need to limit it to just the garden. I think that we, at times, discount the hard reality of Christ’s temptations and sufferings as being something less because of His deity. We have already read that Jesus was tempted in all points and this temptation was not just an abstract, but real. We read here that Jesus, though fully God, learned obedience. He did not learn obedience through His Sonship, but through his suffering in His humanity. We read here that it is Christ’s perfect humanity that is what was able to
merit eternal salvation. It was in the fact that he actually struggled with being true humanity, and I think with the bare possibility to fail, that Christ’s sacrifice is able to save all that obey Him. As we consider the humiliation of Christ let us not discount lightly the real anguish and suffering that Christ experience to merit our salvation. As we take the cup and the bread consider the level of anguish and suffering Christ suffered.

Fred's Devo #36 "Thanksgiving and Praise Break!"

Let's take a break from our Romans 12 series and focus on giving the Lord Thanks and Praise! He is worthy of our thanks and praise! Take a few minutes to read and meditate on two or three of the passages below and give God thanks for his goodness to you and those around you today:

Scriptures on Thanksgiving and Praise:
Oh give thank to the Lord, call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples. -Psalms 105:1

Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him; bless His name. -Psalms 100:4

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. -Philippians 4:6

It is good to give thanks to the Lord, and to sing praises to Thy name, O Most High; to declare Thy loving-kindness in the morning, and Thy faithfulness by night... For Thou, O Lord, hast made me glad by what Thou hast done, I will sing for joy at the work of Thy hands. How great are Thy works, O Lord! -Psalm 92:1, 4-5

Speak to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father... -Ephesians 5:19-20

Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget none of His benefits; Who pardons all your iniquities; Who heals all your diseases; who redeems your life from the pit; Who crowns you with loving-kindness and compassion; Who satisfies your years with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle. -Psalm 103:1-5
I will give thanks to Thee, O Lord, among the people; and I will sing praises to Thee among the nations, for thy loving-kindness is great above the heavens; and thy truth reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens, and thy glory above all the earth. That thy beloved may be delivered, save with thy right hand, and answer me! -Psalm 108:3-6

Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. Do not quench the Spirit; do not despise prophetic utterances. But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good; abstain from every form of evil. (I Thessalonians 5: 16-22

Fred's Daily Devo # 35 "The Motivational Gift of Leadership"

"So in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. 6We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. 7If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; 8if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully." Romans 12:5-7.

The Motivational Gift of Leadership comes next in our list of gifts within the body of Christ. The passage says "if it (the gift) is leadership, let him govern diligently. The believer with this give has the God given ability to "understand clearly the immediate and long range goals of a particular unit of the Body of Christ and to devise and execute effective plans for the accomplishment of those goals. People with this gift tend to be thorough, goal oriented, objective, responsible and organized." *

This gift is critical to the progress of a local fellowship of believers. a leader, a local church or fellowship flounders around without direction. "Within a vision a people perish. (Proverbs 29:18) Leader give direction when direction is needed, they create order out of chaos, yet they know how to respect authority and give other people the credit. They get a big picture of what needs to be done and can organize others to get it done.

What we can learn from leaders and administrators; Keep your surroundings clean, study time management principles, finish what you start, prioritize your work.

Reflection Question: Do I recognize and honor the leaders in my midst? What can I learn from those with strong leadership skills?

Prayer: Lord, thank you for the leaders and administrators in our churches and fellowships. Help us to support their gift by following their leadership for the sake of the kingdom. Help us not to worship them but to worship the Lord only, praying for them and supporting them. Give our leaders grace, wisdom and the diligence to make wise decisions.

Fred's Devo # 34 "The Motivational Gift of Giving"

"So in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. 6We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. 7If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; 8if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully." Romans 12:5-7.

After discussing Christ's mercy on yesterday, back to the motivational gifts. Today we will discuss the "Motivational Gift of Giving" The motivational gift of giving is the special ability God gives to certain people to contribute their material resources to the word of the Lord. Givers are often thrifty, generous, disciplined and resourceful. They make friends easily and motivate others to give.

They are important to the body of Christ not only because of their giving but also because of the fact that they motivate others to give.

Proverbs 19:17 tells us that "he who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord and He will pay back what was given."

My wife has the gift of giving and it has been infectious for me to see her buy and save items to give to people and the joy she has in giving. In the course of the last year or two, she has literally given thousands of dollars worth of items to meet the needs of others. God is often giving things to her to give away to others. I don not have the gift of giving but watching her has increased my sensitivity to the needs of others.

Prayer: "Lord, thank you for the gift of giving within the body of Christ and the needs that are met because of this gift. Help all of us to be more aware of we can serve other members of the body and advance the work of the Lord."

In Jesus Name! Amen!

Fred's Devo #33 "Jesus, Our Great and Merciful High Priest"

Today, We have a guest writer, Bill Bauerly. This is a powerful meditaiton about God's precious mercy as lavished on us by Jesus, Our Saviour! Enjoy! Brother Fred

Good morning friends,

Hebrews 4:14-16

Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

These verses are so precious that there was no way that I could take them separately. The writer has been hammering on us to make sure we are not in unbelief and so as enter into God’s rest. We should almost have the sense that we should question our salvation at every turn. We should be weary of our utter sinfulness and moral failures. We should be aware that our secrets are not hidden before an all knowing and seeing God. But finally we are given a reprieve in that God’s precious mercy is poured out on us. The high priest is one that mediates between God and man. Pleading our cause before this righteous God, Jesus is there in heaven. Whereas we could never enter into God’s rest, Jesus is leading us. It is with a tenacity we are to grasp on to our confession that Christ’s blood has paid the price for our transgression and clothed in His righteousness we can enter into God’s rest. Consider for a moment, Jesus pleading our case before
God as one who was tempted in all areas, but did not sin. Yes we are guilty, but we have a mediator who can sympathize with our weakness. The picture we have here is the priest as he sprinkles the blood of the lamb on the Ark of the Covenant. Picture God looking down on the Ark with the law contained in it. The priest then brings the blood as an offering for a guilty people who have broken that law. Now picture the mercy seat that was between God and broken law. It is not that God winks at sin – heaven forbid - Christ paid the required payment for our sin with his own life, but at the same time he sympathizes with the fact of our weakens. We must always feel the shame and utter sinfulness of our sin, but we must always look to Christ for mercy. It is here that the writer wants us to feel the tension that exists. We are guilty and vile but on the other side we can draw near with confidence that we will receive mercy and grace.

Fred's Devo # 32 "The Gift of Encouragement or Exhortation"

"So in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. 6We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. 7If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; 8if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully." Romans 12:5-7.

Today we will discuss the motivational gift of encouragement or exhortation. The person who has the motivational gift of encouragement is a real blessing to the body of Christ. They have the God given ability to minister words of encouragement, consolation and comfort to members of the body in such a way that they feel encouraged and healed. They motivate others to their best effort" When necessary the exhorter will also admonish or challenge members of the body when needed. I cannot imagine a fellowship without exhorters! Barnabus was described as the "Soon of Consolation" in Acts 4:36. My wife is a exhorter or encourager. She has the ability to stand up in church, share a few words and lift the spirits of everyone in he room! I thank God for her blessing in my life and in he body of Christ.

In a general sense, all Christians are called to encourage and admonish each other.
The bible is a book of encouragement, instruction and admonition on how to follow God and his son Jesus Christ.

Prayer: Lord thank you for those with the gift of Encouragement in the body of Christ. Whether or not I have the gift, help me to look for opportunities to encourage and admonish my brothers and sisters today, for your Glory!
In Jesus Name. Amen
